MozArt Dual Brush Pens Review

 LEGGI IN ITALIANO

Hi guys!
Today I want to introduce the post with a question: do you like watercolor brush markers?
Watercolor purists probably think it's an unuseful tool or it's good only for lettering and journaling.
I get the idea using the Dual Brush Pens by MozArt.
Read the post to see what I think about them!

Above all, what brush pens/markers are? They are markers containing a special ink that, used on the proper paper (we'll see below), can be diluited with a wet brush to make watercolor effetcs. Quantity and quality of pigments don't allow to use them as classic watercolors (for example you can't lift them) , they have limits but you still can make very nice artworks with ease.

Let's see what MozArt Dual Brush Pens are:
MozArt is a company that produces art supplies at affordable prices. They kindly sent to me some supplies to test out among which this set of 12 Dual Brush Pens.

Here my review!

Packaging

The packaging is a cardboard box decorated with delicate drawings of a butterfly and a Japanese woman.

The "bodies" of the markers are black with the white logo of MozArt and the icons of the two tips, there are no colors names or codes.  You can easily put the caps on the sides of the markers to don't loose them during the coloring.
The markers are quite thin, slightly larger than a Bic pen. I appreciate that detail because using thin markers and pens I feel more agile when I'm drawing.
In general I found the design elegant and practical.

Let's see the most interesting part.  These markers have two tips! Obviously they are different from each other. Both are made of felt but one is long, pointed as a brush and flexible. You can use the pointed tip for a very fine line or slightly incline it for a thicker line. This tip is ideal for lettering, coloring, sketching and to draw more dynamic outlines.
The second tip is a classical outliner (I guess 0.3mm), perfect for details.

Swatch

The 12 set contains: orange, yellow, pale pink, pale lavender, light blue, medium blue, purple, red, medium green, light green, reddish light brown, black.

In my opinion a dark cool brown was very useful. As alternative to make shadows I make layers of different colors, for example purple on brown, blue on green etc.
If you use them as watercolors you can make grey wetting black, if you use them as classic markers the color nearest to grey is pale lavender. Of course you can  blend and layer them to make secondary and tertiary colors.
All markers in this set  write very good, there were no dry markers as I read about other brands.

Here the swatches of the12 markers set. I wet them with a brush.

Indications

It's important to know that watercolor markers (all brands) work good only on watercolor paper!
With simple drawing paper they work as regular markers. That happens because the final sizing of watercolor paper (a kind of glue) doesn't make absorb the water quickly and you have the time to diluite the paint, it happens with regular watercolors as well!
About these markers I noticed that on 100% pulp paper the ink gets absorbed quickly and a stain remains on paper after I soaked it.
On other kinds of paper (100% and 50% cotton) I solved the ink more easily. I think it depends on the paper, not on the markers themselves so I suggest  to test them on various papers before to start working on an artwork.
About the ink quality, on their site it's specified it's  made in Germany and it's no-toxic (ASTM tested) that's a good thing!

As I mentioned you can use them on office and drawing sheets as regular markers, keeping in mind that, as all markers, if you use them on thin paper the paint bleeds. I recommend to use at least 240g/m weight paper  if you want to avoid bleeding!

How  can you use Dual Brush Pens?

You can use them with journaling, lettering, scrap booking, sketches, to make illustrations, as fineliner, as watercolors etc.

Here some artworks I made with these markers.

There are many ways to use them as watercolors, I invite you to check out my posts on Instagram.  HERE to see the sloth illustration  tutorial and  HERE to see the various techniques.

Price and reperibility

Price is about €11 for the 12 set  about €17 for the 24 set. They are available on their site and on Amazon.

Rating and conclusions

My final vote for MozArt Dual Brush Pens is 8. I like the versatility of this product, they are very simple to use and the price is not hight given the quality of tips and ink. It's good to start practicing with lettering and have fun without thinking you're waisting hightly priced supplies and you can do many other things with them like  adding tiny details to your watercolor artworks and making a simple version of negative panting.
In conclusion I recommend this product!

I hope you like this review !

Fluffy hugs!
